How a Health Plan Works

The Alliance is a non-profit managed care plan that provides health care coverage to Alameda County residents. The benefits and eligibility requirements for our two (2) programs vary, depending on whether you are enrolled in Medi-Cal or Alliance Group Care. When you enroll with the Alliance, we can help you find doctors, pharmacies, and other providers in our network.

Your Doctor

Your doctor (also called a primary care provider or PCP), community clinic, hospital, and specialists work together to care for you and your family.

Your doctor provides basic health care needs and helps you get the services you need, like:

  • Medical equipment
  • Prescription medications
  • Referrals to specialists
  • X-rays and lab tests

Reasons to Enroll in a Health Plan

  • Find doctors, specialists, and other providers close to where I live and work.
  • Get interpreter services and information in my language.
  • Find care that is accessible to me.
  • File a complaint or an appeal.
  • Help coordinating my care.

For more information, please visit the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
