Domestic Violence
Nearly one-third of women (31 percent) are abused by a male at some point in their lives. (Commonwealth Fund survey, 1998). Signs of abuse include:

If you are battered, you are not alone! You can get free help, shelter, and legal advice. Without outside help, partner abuse tends to get worse. You need to make a safety plan for you and your children. Your plan should include knowing where you can go and how you will get there, even in the middle of the night. Pack an overnight bag, and hide it. You can give your bag to a trusted friend or neighbor to keep for you. Be sure to include extra sets of house and car keys, cash, checkbooks, a toy for your child, vital papers, and extra clothes for you and your kids, medicine, etc. Relationships don't have to hurt!
