In response to a State proposal to create local pilot projects for mandatory Medi-Cal managed care expansion to seniors and persons with disabilities, Alameda Alliance for Health organized an initial series of community planning meetings to discuss the possibility of Alameda County becoming a pilot county. Four meetings were held between April and June 2006, where participants exchanged ideas and experiences about how the Alliance could most effectively serve low-income seniors and persons with disabilities through the proposed expansion. Based on recommendations from the group, the Alliance intends to implement several new initiatives that will broaden the plan's understanding of the needs and satisfaction of the 7,600 existing members who are seniors and persons with disabilities and improve the disability literacy of Alliance staff. The community meetings will reconvene in the fall once the status of the legislation authorizing the creation of local pilot projects (California State Assembly Bill 2607) is known.
