Alameda Alliance for Health still at your service

Ingrid Lamirault

The Sunday article "Low-income folks losing health plan" served as a perfect story explaining the healthcare problems facing many regions of our state and country.

The decision the Alameda Alliance for Health made to discontinue our Alliance Family Care and First Care programs was very difficult, and was reached only after exhausting all resources and possibilities for maintaining these two programs.

Unfortunately, the article on the closure of these two programs has left some people with the idea that Alameda Alliance for Health is closing its doors. This is not the case.

The Alliance remains dedicated to serving Alameda County residents and working with our community partners. We have a healthy balance sheet, a solid plan to stem the losses and time to execute the plan.

One part of the plan is to end the two programs that were heavily subsidized by our reserves. The plan also includes operational changes that will allow us to continue to provide services to Alameda County residents well into the future.

Rest assured that other Alliance programs, including Medi-Cal, the Healthy Families program and our program for In-Home Support Services Workers, remain unchanged. We are moving forward with a solid business plan and strong hopes for the future.
